Dwiggikipedia.com?

More news today on the Microsoft-Wikipedia fiasco – ‘Idea of Paid Entries Roils Wikipedia’ by Brian Bergstein, AP Technology Writer.

Good article with valid points of contention on the issue of ‘corporate meddling’ on Wikipedia. This, along with his first article - ‘Microsoft offers cash for Wikipedia edit’, is useful reading for companies that are thinking about editing Wikipedia entries.

But that’s not all. Emerging from the messy brawl, is a new kid on the 2.0 block – Helium.com – a Wikipedia-esque site that allows anyone (and we’re really talking about companies) to post information about themselves.

According to Brian, “Helium.com lets anyone write an article on a topic. But unlike at Wikipedia, one contributor doesn’t overwrite another. Instead the community votes on which entries are more valuable. As a result, multiple articles on a subject appear together, with top-rated ones listed higher.”

Seems like a good concept. After all, if a company earns public trust, shouldn’t it be given a chance to defend itself with the facts?

So it’s Wikipedia meets Digg. Dwiggikipedia. And the battle between corporate agenda and Wikipedia rages on.

That’s what I love about the 2.0 universe. It’s a never-ending geek thriller.

AboutUs is a wiki for self promotion. Check it out.

Suggestion: Enable full text on your blog for easier reading.

    Thanks Wilson.

Suggestion noted and you’ll see less “break-ups” on my blog in future. :)

AboutUs is certainly an enterprising stab at extending innovation, but I do wonder if it’s more tiring than useful.
